Thanks; that sounds like a plausible explanation. Only issue is that I apparently had the trigger points replaced at the time I had all of the other work done too. I suppose they could have gotten messed up or dirty during the other work if the tech was careless, but it's probably unlikely. The new ones could also be defective out of the box, since it ran intermittently on 8 before the work was done and now it runs on 4 all the time. I'm going to go take some contact cleaner to the plug for them and see if that helps.

I assume that to get them out to clean the pickups themselves, the whole distributor needs to come out? That's what it's looking like from searching on the forums.
