I went to work on my car today to re-time the IP and as I hand turned the crankshaft I noticed that the noise magically disappeared.
I got the car running smoothly and still no noise, I did not do anything I can think of that would have made it go away.
Maybe someday I'll find out what it was, hopefully not anytime soon though.
