Be aware that the '81 380SL uses a different OVPR than the ' 82 and later cars. This one is the small red relay with built in fuse. By looking through as small hole on the back side it will show if the fuse portion is blown. It can't be replaced and you have to get a new relay. Be careful when using booster cables that they're connected properly or you can easily blow the fuse.
The late OVPR is longer and silver in colour. It has a 10 amp blade style fuse that can be changed. If the fuse blows the engine will speed up at idle and on some cars the frequency valve will stop working. I've seen where the only thing that made any of this stuff work right again was a new relay and that was on a 560SL.
