That was my first thought, to just unsnap the deflector from the hinge. The problem is that the outboard hinges are open at the back, but about 30mm inboard of each hinge there's an upright peice preventing rearward movement. I'd have to flex the hinge pin rearward at least 6-8mm to release it over a length of only about 30mm. I think it would likely snap. The book states that the complete hinge body is removed with the deflector. Could mine be different than yours?
