Just as a point of information, those components are a Zener Diode and fuse. A Zener diode will act like a regular diode up to a predetermined voltage across the reverse direction, then it will conduct fully in the reverse direction. This causes enough current to flow that the fuse blows.

The Zener can change values due to age and temperature cycles. If this has happened, you should just get a new unit. Another discussion elsewhere mentioned getting one from ********** for USD 27.00. Get a couple other things to get your order over $ 50.00, and you get free shipping.

Hope this helps,
Scott
