I did forget that the very first step was to remove that inner trim piece, then the side rails.
As I recall from looking at JCE's deflector, the disassembly on the 124 is nearly identical to the 126. In fact, at the last get together I was going to replace and updates JCE's springs but we never ran over to the dealer for the parts.
If we were looking at the underside of the deflector, the tab would probably be protruding further, but looking at the topside, that is all that sticks up. Also, at just about the center of the picture you can see where the long leg of the spring fits in a hole in the front edge. The special tool mentioned in the manual is a small plastic wedge, but a small flat tip screwdriver works great.
