The problem is that it needs to stay at $5 if you want people to change their behavior. As it is, everyone knows it will go up and then come back down. We are not going to see any serious (commercial) alternative fuel development until we know the price will stay at a reasonable level. This whole silly debate will go away when there are sources of commercial BD (taxed) at a competitive price.
