Was the squeak you experienced that prompted this replacement very pronounced when turning in either direction and much fainter when hitting a bump in the road?
I have a 91 300te 4matic and I suspect the ball joint even though there is no visible damage to the boot, the sound though it echoes down there seems to be coming from the ball joint at the wheel...
