Tensioner Pulley

Hi All,

I recently replaced my belt tensioner, pulley and shock on my 1993 300d. The belt does not ride in the center of the tensioner pulley. I can see approx 1 mm of pulley in front of the belt and at least twice that amount to the rear of the belt. Is this typical? I installed the spacer washer on the pulley that was originally installed.

The back of the belt does seem to be wearing, although it unfortunately got soaked with engine oil. Something is squeaking about twice/second. The water pump pulley was chewed up (on the mating surface to the belt) from a previous owner. I plan on replacing the water pump pulley, but am concerned about how the belt rides on the tensioner pulley. Do I need to re-shim it till it is in the center of the pulley?

Any advice?

As always, thanks in advance.

Andrew
