Yeah, when we were putting E40D/4R100 and 5R100 trans in the Ford Super Duty trucks left and right, Ford gave us this very filter to plumb in line with ALL exchange units, otherwise it voided the trans warranty. It does have the bypass feature, so I would say use it if you wish. Greg is right too. I think that a powerful magnet at the bottom of the pan works just as well.
