lyle, sounds like you need to replace the worn shifter bushings which are accessible from under the car. Unless you are an experienced DIY'er you will probably need to have an indie replace them. The bushings are inexpensive, not sure about the labor. You may want to call a few indies for estimates. Best to replace the bushings as soon as possible.
