The 400E's were sold as a 400E in 1992 and 1993. For 1994 and 1995, the grill / headlights were updated and the badge was changed to E420. The engine was basically the same. It was always a 4.2 liter engine.
There doesn't seem to be anything to look out for as far as problems, and are every bit as reliable as the six-cylinder models..
They run a little hotter than the six-cylinder models.
They have a lot more power than '86-92 300E's, and a bit more than '93-'95 300E / E320's.
The timing change recommendation is the same as the 560 SEL models at around 120,000 miles.
