The real reason for the smart meters is to be able to charge on a tiered rate schedule, and to get rid of the meter readers. In other words- a higer bill for the customer and less expense for the utility co. All the propaganda about them saving you energy is 100% BS. The only thing that saves energy is using less and a smart meter won't do that for you. BTW- out in the boonies where I live they still have to send the meter reader because it is too far from a receiver to remotely read the meter. I still don't have one though as I am holding out as long as I can.
