Meh, don't take a gallon of contact lens fluid or shampoo, don't bring a blade on a plane. I did a LOT of traveling in college being in band (and also hauling several hundred pounds of drums wherever I went) and when we didn't have charter flights we just used regular airlines. Not once was felt up, balls cupped, whatever the stories say. Metal detector, good behavior, wear sandals, and you're in your flight. Is it a pain? Yup, but not so much of a sacrafice IMO.
