Welcome to the fraternity! BTDT. What you have discovered, among other things, is that this 'banjo' bolt is really misnamed: it is actually related to its cousin, the 'Jesus' clip, apparently. As in, 'oh Jesus, where the heck did THAT go?"
Car parts are thusly named because they have an innate gift for seeking out the deepest, darkest, most inaccessible nooks and crannies in the engine compartment whenever they are allowed to roam free. I strongly recommend buying one of those little magnetic parts dishes to place them in next time. But that is 20/20 hindsight, and does not help you now.
The solution to your dilemma is actually surprisingly simple: have you noticed how the lost part always turns up in the last place you look? The obvious solution, therefore, is to reverse the order of your search: look in the last place FIRST. Piece of cake, right?
If for some reason that suggestion doesn't work, don't be disheartened. I have another simple solution: slowly, meticulously simply disassemble the whole car, starting in the area where you last heard the bolt fall. It may take a year or two, but trust me: you will find your missing bolt, and all will be well again.
On the other hand, you could just cop out, concede defeat and accept the generous offers above from other forum members. The choice is yours. I know what I would do.
Wink wink nudge nudge.
Good luck and keep us posted!
