How big is the shop? An external heat pump unit will be far more efficient than anything you can get that is "portable" and so long as you have gas and electric to it you can hook it up yourself. Just install a piece of duct into the building, insulate it outside, and you're good, though you'll want a good deflector inside to avoid "jetwash".

The shop has several small rooms and two large bays. I just want to heat the area that I use. I wanted a portable unit so I could roll it to where I'm doing the work. The shop has gas heat for the really cold days.
