Unfortunately the superior quality pre-1985 cars are getting on 30 years old and will have expensive age related issues to deal with.

Seems the smart man went from the W126 to the LS400 and never looked back. From every practical standpoint the Lexus and Acura are the better buy. Now Hyundai is well on its way to further chipping away at MB's marble pedestal.

If I were buying new, I'd rather have the Acura TSX than Mercedes C class and would save me 5 grand right off the bat and depreciate half as fast. I'd rather have the 429 horsepower Hyundai Genesis R-spec than the less powerful (though impressive new motor) E550, save myself 20 grand, and probably quite a bit on depreciation. Same story for the big cats. I'd buy a LS460 sport over the S550 for the same practical reasons and I think the LS460 is far more attractive.

I still appreciate the cars, but after experiencing just about everything that can possibly go wrong with them, they've lost their enchantment with me.
