Reno is On Fire

Big fire in SW Reno. So far 2000 acres burned and 20+ houses destroyed. 10,000 people evacuated. School canceled. Nonstop local news coverage. Local casino hotels offering steep discounts to displaced persons.

I was supposed to go to my insurance company's office in Reno today to finish up the paperwork for my totaled motorcycle. I can't get them on the phone. I think they are about a half mile from where the eastward progress of the fire was recently halted. They still don't have containment on the thing.

It's being fanned by high winds (40-70 mph) that will probably continue until the approaching cold front arrives and drops some snow/rain on the situation this evening.

Note to self: Never buy a house with a cedar roof.
