I've never even seen your transmission before but I can say that the linkage goes to the control valve 741M-1 in the PDF.

It looks to me that for your transmission you might get some joy by removing the oil pan, the valve body and the connection from 741M-1 to the input shaft. You then would need to remove the input shaft to get access to the seal.

Access around the gearbox is usually tight. Like you say you might be able to drop it down a bit if you remove the propshaft - but be careful if you do not to damage the mounts. Leaving heavy things dangling at an angle can damage stuff!
