My car sits outside, and when I start it, I let it run for about 5 minutes or so before driving. When I do this, the shifts are normal. Try to take it easy for an additional 5 minutes or so, and then the harsh shifts will go away.
I get these too if I don't let the car warm up for a few minutes. Even in the summer, this happens. A 5-minute warm-up makes a HUGE difference.
