As you know, MB's are not cheap to own!

However, they are not hard to work on. Regular maintenance items are easy to do and parts are not too expensive through internet vendors like Fastlane.
You will find, MB shops/dealerships will charge from around $50 to over $100 per hour. If you DIY guess who is making that money? Sometimes you have NO choice.
Regular maintenance can be done by DIY'ers on a MB just like any other car but, KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS!
If you going to keep your car for a while, I suggest you buy the MB CD manuals.
