I'm afraid I've never even seen the pre-81 type ones. My oldest benz is 82. I'd be interested though, if you like me to take a look at it, I'd be happy to.

At the least I could go through and replace the aged capacitors and retouch the solder points. Unfortunately I'd have no way of test the unit, other than sending it back to you and having you install it. Let me know what you decide.
