380SL Vacuum Questions

I have my Road Kill '81 380SL running and driving with it's new double-chain euro spec motor, and am now starting to straighten out some of its other problems. First up is heat and defrost. First problem: no vacuum to the climate control system.

There is a large grey vacuum line that runs across the firewall from a series of Y connectors on the left side. This is obviously the main vacuum line but it is not connected to anything. How/where does it connect to the engine?

The diagram/picture in the manual implies it is off the main fitting for the brake booster ("engine pipe"), but there is no connector there.

There is a another vacuum source in that area, but it connects to the transmission and to a Y with one side going to the fuel system and the other underneath the manifold. No spare connection there.

Second question - where is the vacuum tank shown in the diagram?
