Not sure about the heat issue. I ran mine as a very brief experiment before my car got totaled and it was not hot. So, either yours may have had a short of some sort or the Bosch unit has a built in chip which limits the heat and pumps operation. IDK. I hope to have my car back from the paint place by mid September so that these odd ball issues can be explored and a bunch of pictures taken to be posted. The Phoenix project is now over the hump !
Did you actually check to see if it was hot or not; I only found out by accident. Only the top of the Pump where the Vane Pump is was hot. The Motor itself did not seem abnormal hot. Maybe that heat is normal for them.
And, as I said all the stuff in the Car that needed Vacuum worked as it was supposed to.

Also the V Pump I used was a new one I got on eBay and it is not made by Bosch. I think it is was made by Hella.
I also have a used one somewhere that I have misplaced.

Besides Audi, VW, Saab and Volvo have used them.

In any event it is easy to see the Value of a Vacuum Shutoff Switch.
