the problem with old vw's is that vw abandoned the air cooled cars long ago. you have not been able to get parts for them for many years. your only source of parts is aftermarket, and the majority of them are absolute piss poor made in china junk.

not to mention that old beetles and such are typically owned by broke students and cheapskates, so it's almost guaranteed that every one of them has been so severely neglected and abused, that it'll cost a small fortune to make it right again.
