I also use that storage compartment to hold a drink. You just slide the door shut to the size of the container and holds the container in there real good and tight.

I ultimately decided to mount the cupholders in my doors because in the long run, it's just too inconvenient to lose the armrest to a drink. Also, on trips, invariably my wife and I will both have drinks, and one of us will have to hold our drink in our lap.
