Our '91 300E had a distinct wobble when braking. At first I was suspecting the rotors, being thin, I replaced them. The pedal modulation stopped but not the shuddering in the steering wheel.

I then replaced a worn tire rod end and the it all stopped.

A friend did this also and still had problems. I suggested he look carefully at the pitman (idler arm bearings). They seemed bad, replaced them and was very pleased, but in the removal of the shuddering but also in the feeling of the steering being tightened up.
