Not really in the common sense, there are hydraulic compensators, which would sort of be like hydraulic lifters.
There are a few things that can go wrong which would make a tick. On top of each valve sten is a small ball socket (like a dished washer) that can flip out of place and would give you a big clearance issue. I would get the valve cover off and start investigating pretty soon. Thiis is the most likely problem, there are other possibilities.
