Don't buy a gas VW-I've had to work on one and it was just one thing after another.
If you get a TDI be wary of the EGR issues. All the regular junky VW stuff applies.
If you don't care what you look like, get an older Ford with the Lima 2.3-it's slow cheap and reliable.
