This is probably a throwout bearing that's on it's way to failing. You should put the car in the air and look for the captive end of the return spring near the clutch fork. Give it a little wiggle, if you don't detect any excessive motion, then the spring is in place. It's rare for this piece to fall out, but they can lose their tension.
