Hello, Is it possible to disassemble the oil pump in this engine to check out the internals or is it a case of once it is taken apart it is no good?

I took the pressure relief valve out and there is a flat spot at the end of the plunger and I don't know which way the flat spot is orientated or if it matters? Thanks.
