Heat is going to be your #1 problem, as you probably already know. The basic stuff that applies to pretty much any of the diesels:a nice intercooler, correct sized turbo, a free flowing exhaust pre and post turbo, and proper timing (advance it until it knocks, then retard it 1*-2*)
If you want some extra power without spending the money on IP work you can setup methanol injection for around $150. It's worth 20-5,000 HP depending on who you ask
Stay away from propane with IDI engines you risk preignition.
