You didn't say how you're supporting the engine and I don't think you're letting it rest on the subframe by the sound of it. If you have a jack under the engine, I hope it has wheels
If not, use (or borrow) a floor jack with wheels. Put a 2x4 between the jack and oil pan so you don't kill the pan. Don't lift too high, just pick up the engine an inch or so. Use a long crowbar to jimmy the engine where it needs to be. Likely the rear mount (AKA "Transmission mount") is also collapsed leading to positioning hassles with new front mounts.
