My roommate's 1965 W111 220S with automatic transmission slams when downshifting when coming to a stop. We were told for a while that the older Mercedes transmissions are supposed to slam harshly because they don't have torque converters...
Then later on I heard that there are supposed to be throttle position sensors that help the transmission to downshift smoothly. His car has new dual Weber carburetors installed by a previous owner, so who knows how to fix it now...
