If the "abandoned" car is on your property it is a much longer process. I just did this (without title) recently with a 240D. I stipped most everything off the car including windows, differential, axles, engine, tranny, crome... I put 4x4 blocks between the swing arms and the bump stops so it would roll, pushed the shell onto the street and called the city. Within two hours the car was gone.
What I meant is that I have the tittle signed off by the previous owner but it is NOT in my name. Would it pose any problem with the JY? Would they try to match title with my CA driver license before they take the car? I am just asking if I ever do it.
