Yes, you can just swap the tumbler assembly.

I just did :-)

If the key turns to the ACC position and you can get the paper clip, or jewelers
screwdriver into the release hole, then you can spin the un-spin the shroud and
pull the tumbler out.

$55, the registration, and photo ID, to my local Mercedes and I had the new
tumbler the next day.

BTW, The old tumbler used a jewelers screw driver to compress the locking dog,
while the new tumbler wouldn't work with a screw driver at all, but worked just fine
with a paper clip. I tried for days to get the old one out with a paper clip wire
with no luck. The first time I used a screw driver it worked instantly. So the
big question is: are there 2 types of manufacturers of tumblers and do they make
them slightly different?
