You can do almost everything at home because most of the things that they do are "Check" (i.e. lights, fuel lines, etc.), or cleaning the cassette heads. I paid the money when I bought my 300d used just so that I could have the dealer go over it. The bill was over $500! I suggest pulling out the maintainance manual that came with the car and do everything that you feel comfortable with THEN make a list of what you DON'T feel comfortable with and visit your dealer. I'll bet that it will be a LOT less. BTW: document everything that you do so if there's ever a question about maintainance you can produce records that you yourself really DID the maintainance.
