One of the holes couldn't be done like that because it is in the middle of the head - the other one could possibly be tackled that way.

Re-threading the pin might be a possible solution but I think the corrosion is probably going to win.

Believe me, i am talking from experience.
I don't want to cut the chain - it is still lining up nicely at the camshaft and the crank - and it is probably going to cost me the best part of 400 euros to get a chain and a tool to fit the chain (can't rent tools where I am)

So I'd rather take out the engine than pay the extra money!
