Have another look at your linkages and see if you can see evidence of missing rubber.

80 and 81 240D have the rubber piece. 82 and 83 does not have it.

The one on my 80 240D fell apart. the rubber is vulcanized to the metal bracket, and after 30+ years, it was well past it`s life expectancy.
I stopped at a dealer in Reno, NV., and the price they gave me for it is $365. ......how many do you want?

I had it Zip tied for a while and it worked ok. I finally found one in PNP that was still soft pliable rubber. my old one was about as soft as a Brick.
