None of that has much bearing on what GZ did to set the fight in motion. It's not really known. Gun rights advocates are big on the notion of using a gun to dissuade an attacker. If one is using one's fist to dissuade an attacker, it doesn't happen in the blink of an eye. One generally needs to whoop the other to insure that they back off.
I don't buy the "You are going to DIE tonight" allegation. GZ had a lot of time to concoct a story and the extent of the witness testimony against him was well known in advance of the trial.
