Smash and grab

Yesterday my wife's 300SD was broken into. They smashed the passenger side window and took what they
thought was her handbag. The good news however, was that it was a purse that she had just totally cleaned
out and was delivering to her daughter as a gift, lol. That's the good news. I laughed thinking about the dirtbags
getting back to their vehicle with a purse from, "duh wow man a MERCEDES", opening it up to moths flying out :>P.
So now we have the hassle of fixing it.
The funny thing is, that her real purse with cash and valuables was "locked" in the trunk. My wife stated that
"All the dummies had to do was pull up the driver's side door lock and take all the stuff in the trunk if they had been thinking". Well, I ignorantly told her, that design concious Mercedes cetainly would not have made it that
easy, so I bet her (bad move, heh) and sure enough, all you have to do is reach through the broken window, lift the lock button on the driver's side and open pops the trunk lock. Doesn't that seem like a really bad design oversight?
