May or may not be too bad in there. Bent or damaged valves suspected. Blowing some air into those two cylinders after manipulation of the pistons into location might help to verify.

There is one serious issue though. No sense repairing or replacing the engine until whatever caused the serious downshift on the highway is located. Otherwise a repeat of it is a possibility.
