Here's what I did...

First removed and rehabilitated the lift pump, thanks again to everyone here.
Removed lift pump and freed piston, thanks Cooljay, for pointing that out to me.
Reinstalled lift pump.
Still had issues, so I had to clear the fuel lines (should have done that first).
Then I removed and cleaned the tank (should have done that first).
You should have seen the junk that come out of the tank.
Took the car out yesterday and it was like it had come off the assembly line.

Then another issue I had to tackle, I mentioned it here earlier, the car would not start,except when it wanted to.
After days of frustatration, different tests, the replacing of parts and searching this site, it turned out to be the relay which controls the seatbelt/starter interlock system which was a safety requirement on the 1974models.
One of the most frustrating issues I had to tackle, because it was so simple, yet difficult to track down.

If it wasn't for this forum/site, I would still be searching.
