Here's a thought... I live in Michigan and just bought my E320 last summer. To drive it, I transferred plates from my winter car ($11). Since I switch off cars seasonally (I can't afford to spend money on an expensive Benz only to have it rust away in the winter), I can renew plates on my winter car ($44) in April (my birthday), then transfer plates to my Benz for the summer.

fz500sel, thanks for the heads up!... I've never spent over $44 to register a car in Michigan.

Yes, the write-off is only a small consolation. The tax savings is only for those that itemize - and even then it's roughly only a 25% rebate.
