Basic Texas rates are $50 bucks for cars > 10 years old, %60 for cars less than 10 years old. Dallas county used to have a personal property tax on cars, we never had that up in Collin county. No statewide personal property tax on cars either.

Being a smoggy city, counties in the Dallas area require an annual $39.50 inspection and emissions test. But diesels are exempt and pay only $12. Plus, they don't wait in line for their turn on the treadmill.

No state income tax in Texas either. Our property taxes are extremely high, but you can choose how much home to consume and hence how much tax to pay. All in all the tax burden in Texas is average for the U.S., but our taxes are more consumption based, hence give the individual some ability to decide how much to pay.
