a friend left a message i belatedly received asking for a boost (i was not home) but got me thinking about how risky it is for me to boost another car, which in this case the car i would be boosting is a terrible heap of ***** that this guy is constantly having problems with, so is car boosting using cables completely safe if done right?, i.e., putting the right cable on the right post

i talked to the guy later and he said he got it going, but the person boosting it had to "rev" their engine to push more electrical power to his dead beast...is this correct, do you rev the engine to create more electricity...

i just get a bad vibe thinking about this...what is the "right" way to boost a car, precautions, certain boost situations to decline, etc.? advice?
