Anybody with an old car would need to use an oil like the delo diesel truck to protect it, all the current "car" oils on the shelf nowdays have all the anti-wear zink removed , and really dont offer protection.

I use diesel truck oil in EVERYTHING, no matter what season it is. if its cold where you are in the winter--use some type of plug in heater overnite.
