As a fairly recent BMW owner, I've been reading up on the VANOS rebuild. So far, mine hasn't been giving me issues (just replaced entire set of coils and sensors, though).

It used to be that you had to buy a new or reconditioned unit ($$$$) and with labor, could run you a couple of thousand $$$! Now you can just buy the VANOS seals and do the work yourself (if you are of that mindset).

At least you only need to remove the valve cover and not the head!
