I have heard about EMP's that can disable all electronic functions, and that would render a majority of the cars on the road today useless. However, our old compression ignition engines will operate without any power source or electronic gadgetry once they are started. A 240 with a manual trans may not even need a battery to start if it was hot and parked on an incline. So yes, there is a great advantage for having these old, simple, robust automobiles. Then there is the subject of fuel availability. You can guess the advantage there to having an old Diesel as well. With the vast array of fuels that will work (in an emergency of course
) in these engines, it makes them all the more valuable. Thanks for the great discussion....Rich
