If you find a complete early shifter assembly, you will be good to go. The shift handles, however, do not interchange.

You may want to consider making a handle of appropriate sized steel tubing, tapped for the threads on the stub handle under the boot on yours, and then having it plated, or, make it of stainless tubing and polish it. Then let your imagination create a knob.
